How It Started
By dissagreeing with the Massachussetts colony's beleifs, Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson were banned from Massachussetts. The two poor and broken settlers looking for somewhere to live, accedentally ran into the local indian tribe in the new land, and befriended them in 1636, not very long ago. Then, the Rhode island Colony was officially founded in 1638!
This Is Roger Williams, one of the great founders of our colony.
After many people moved to Rhode Island, the King Phillips War ended in southern Rhode Island in 1676. Getting closer to our present, in 1732 the Rhode Island Gazette was published and became the colony's first newspaper. From 1769 to 1772, some very brave Rhode Island patriots burned English ships "Liberty" and "Gaspee" at Newport and Providence. You would definetly want to move to such an important colony!
